Our mission

In 2001, we developed a formal mission statement:

LSCR's mission is to provide technological leadership for the College of Letters & Science, to provide computing support to L&S departments, to establish and promote "best practices" for L&S computing, to fulfill computing needs not met elsewhere on campus, to manage the computing infrastructure for the College, and to act as a liason and advocate for the College in campus technical forums, in support of the College's mission of providing a liberal education at the highest level of excellence.

As we began a long-range strategic planning process in 2004, we also developed a formal statement of purpose:

We design and maintain information systems, solve computer-related problems, and provide technological leadership for the College community with expertise, professionalism, courtesy, and care.

More informally, we are here to help L&S departments more effectively use their computers. We fill in the gaps between what departments can do for themselves, and what is provided by the central campus. We retain the personal feel of having your own departmental support people (our partners actually sit in the departments they support), while providing the benefits of broad expertise and a large, experienced staff. Please let us know if there is any computing area where we might be able to help you.
