Through LSCR, the College provides web hosting to L&S departments and related units. In our hosting environment, eligible departments are given "unlimited" disk space and bandwidth, and have access to all of the popular web tools such as PHP, Ruby on Rails, MySQL, WordPress and Drupal. We manage shared WordPress and Drupal installations which are available to our users.
The vendor is Dreamhost, a popular commodity web hosting provider which has a full-featured hosting environment.
Our server does not provide any video streaming support; we recommend that you host video on one of the public video hosting sites, or on webcast.berkeley.edu, and embed the videos in your web pages.
There is a cost for using this service, which is tallied based on average usage at the end of the year. Our current estimate is that the service cost will be approximately $50/month per department; there is no charge for additional domains or sites within a single department. Note that this cost includes support of the environment, including account creation and set up, backup management, and provision of WordPress and Drupal environments, in addition to the basic hosting cost. In some cases, your division may be willing to cover the cost of the service for your department.
