Starting Friday, we will begin sending messages to users who are still
accessing CalMail using the CalMail password.

Note that departmental accounts that are used by automated systems
will still be able to use a CalMail password, and we will not
send the message below to these accounts.

For more background on the project to use CalNet authentication for
CalMail, please see:

Below is the message we will be sending:

On August 3, 2009, CalMail began the transition to CalNet
authentication with the adoption of CAS by our webmail clients. Users
of desktop clients may also now use their CalNet passphrase to log in
to CalMail, though CalMail passwords will continue to work until
September 30, 2009.

Our logs show that you are using your CalMail password to access your
account. We ask that you take this opportunity to change your email
client to use your CalNet passphrase, rather than your CalMail
password. Below are some instructions, please choose the most
appropriate procedure for your situation:

   * If you enter your password each time you access your account, you
will simply need to enter the CalNet passphrase instead for both
receiving (IMAP/POP) and sending (SMTP) email.

   * If you have your password saved within your client, we have
guides in the Knowledge Base to assist you. Go to
http://kb.berkeley.edu/ and enter your email client in the search box.

   * If you have configured an external third party service, such as
Gmail, Hotmail, or Yahoo to check your CalMail account on your behalf,
to preserve the security of your CalNet passphrase we recommend that
you instead begin forwarding your CalMail email to your third party
account. Enter "forwarding" in the search box of the Knowledge Base
at http://kb.berkeley.edu/ for assistance.

If you are using a Windows XP machine with Thunderbird and log in to
your computer using the Active Directory on campus, there is a new
feature (GSSAPI) you can use so you will not need to enter your
passphrase into Thunderbird. Please go to the Knowledge Base at
http://kb.berkeley.edu/ and enter GSSAPI in the search box for
instructions.

CalMail passwords will no longer work as of September 30th, so please
update your mail client's settings prior to that day. If you do
experience any problems with the change, please contact CalMail
