Re: photos for web

We've built a fairly sizable (7,000+ images) collection of
campus-related photos in Public Affairs, which are available to other UC
Berkeley offices for non-commercial use. (I've already told Susan that
they'll be of little use to her because, being photos of people, places
and activities at Berkeley -- which has no med school -- they don't
include photos of doctors and other medical personnel.) But we don't
make this archive publicly accessible via the web because of copyright
issues; many of the photos in our collection are by freelance
photographers, and we don't have the automatic right to redistribute
their images to third parties. But we are willing to respond to requests
from campus departments for images of specific subjects or themes
(please send such requests to publicaffairs@berkeley.edu), or to have
you come by our office to trawl through the complete collection.

We'd love to have more photos to add to that central pool, particularly
photos of teaching and research. Please drop me a note or give me a call
if you or your department have photos you would be willing to add to the
collection (and for which you have redistribution rights).

We're also working on building a smaller archive of most-requested
campus images, using photos to which we own the copyright. Our hope is
to have that archive available on the web by later this summer.
