Microsoft settlement checks (DON'T CASH)

Some department across the UC system have recently received checks
that are said to part of the "Microsoft Settlement." Since UC was
declared to be ineligible under this class action suit, it is not
clear why some checks to UC have been issued. But the campus has
been instructed by UCOP to NOT submit these checks for payment, as
that could affect UC's rights to participate in a separate lawsuit
against Microsoft in which UC might be eligible for compensation.

If your department received a "Microsoft Settlement" check, please
keep it in a safe place, and also please send me the following
information about it:

      Payee name on the check
      Date of the check
      Amount of the check
      Claim number on the check

and also

      Your department name
      Contact information for the person responsible for dealing with the check

UCOP is looking into the situation and will provide an update on what
departments should do with the checks.
