We are currently building out two department websites and a program website
using this cms. It has many benefits and works extremely well for
departments and organizations. Its limitations are that it has poor support
for sites within a site, limited workflow options, and access control
lists. There are hacks though and add on modules that address some of these
limitations. Beyond that, it is a very slick product and it is well
respected in the open source community. It is on the verge of 4.6 and 5.0
looks to become a significant upgrade and big player in the overall cms
market (more enterprise oriented). 5.0 is maybe a year away though. It uses
php/mysql/apache. For a review of different cms' take a look at
http://www.cmsmatrix.org/matrix. This gives you a broad overview of many
different cms and helps if you want to write an RFP. It is a well balanced
site, but keep in mind that PlainBlack's WebGUI graciously sponsors it. So
it is slightly biased. For php oriented cms, this site,
http://www.opensourcecms.com/, is also a good resource and it uses mambo :)
. You can demo many sites from here. If you have any more questions please
give me a ring.
