UCOP and Sybase have agreed to carry out a UC survey concerning the
use of two Sybase products, the Adaptive Server and Replication
Server. Any UC Berkeley department using one of these products
should fill out the survey and return it to me no later than 10/3/03.
Usage of other Sybase products is not part of this survey process.
Completion of the survey by all user departments across the UC system
is necessary to resolve a contract issue with Sybase and to lay the
groundwork for a new Sybase agreement.
In mid-August, I sent a message to several campus lists to let people
know that some sort of survey would be forthcoming. I received a few
responses to that. I have decided to send the current message to
multiple lists again to ensure the widest dissemination of the latest
information about this.
Please note that it is the department that supports the operation of
these products that needs to respond to the survey. Anyone who is
just an end user of the software should not fill out the form.
The survey form provided by UCOP is an Excel document. I have not
had time, prior to vacation, to reformat this in a way that I (and
maybe you) would prefer. But it will meet UCOP's requirements.
Instead of mailing the survey form to many people who don't need it,
I am arranging to make it available for download. The document
should be available for download by the end of the day tomorrow.
Here is how you can get it:
1. Go to the BITS Forum information page: http://bits.berkeley.edu/
2. Click on the "Login" button at the bottom of the page. You
will be taken to a CalNet login screen.
3. Enter your CalNet information. If you are authenticated as
a member of Berkeley's staff or faculty, you will be taken to the
BITS Forum enrollment screen, which has a section for documents. You
do not need to join the BITS Forum to download the document.
4. Click on the Sybase document link to download the file.

products@socrates.berkeley.edu, with a copy to me. Software
Distribution had kindly agreed to convey your questions to UCOP and
