Dear Webnet,

Here's something that should be useful, with the caveats below. It's UC
Press's Credits, Permissions, Releases, and Consents page for their
authors' use, and it includes release forms (thanks to Nancy Capell of
UCOP for the link). I have received permission to forward the link to
the Webnet list, but only with the associated comments/caveats. So here

Comments/caveats from Marilyn Schwartz of UC Press:

The Press's guidelines were vetted by Brad Bunnin, a local private
lawyer who specializes in publishing law. I assume that the legal
information is sound, but I don't know whether UCB or another unit
would accept it as a basis for "policy" or not. At UC Press we refer
authors to this information but we have been advised (so I am told) to
avoid offering--or allowing authors to think we are offering--either
official or legal advice in response to their questions.

I'm still following up on whether there is a regents' policy or
directive on this issue.
