That method works fine as long as you do not have a system administrator
who needs to use the messenger service.
Another option is to use Nukenabber (available at
http://contact.net.nz/support/Nukenabber/ along with a good set of
instructions on blocking the common ports used by Trojans, Worms and other
vermin). You can set it to ignore (use the "Ignore" tab) your local subnet
so that your system administrator can still use it for legitimate purposes
while blocking attempts to access it from outside. I've used Nukenabber
for several years and recommend it highly.
