Due to family illness, I've had to reschedule our next meeting from this
Friday to Wednesday, February 27. Everything else remains the same.
ere is the original announcement, with the new date:
At our FEB. 27 meeting, we'll be brainstorming about a possible proposal
for a campus Web-database server, with a special guest from Academic
Computing Services.
WHAT: Limited Resources SIG meeting
WHEN: WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 27, 9-10 am
WHERE: 3105 Tolman (Beach Room)
WHO: campus Web managers
TOPIC: campus Web-database server
AGENDA:
Brainstorming meeting on a the pros and cons of asking the campus to
contract for and support a Web database server (along the lines of
course Web sites), so we nonprogrammers can make use of it and can focus
our training.
Any campus Web manager who is interested in this service is welcome and
encouraged to come, especially if you might be willing to sign any
resulting proposal. Bring ideas for uses of a centralized database
server, reasons the campus should provide this service, whether it
should be provided on a recharge basis, why it would be cost-effective,
etc.
We will have on hand Ann Dobson of Academic Computing Services, who
manages both Socrates and Arachne (formerly Amber) Web services. She can
give us a reality check and is very interested in learning about campus
needs in this area.
