Dear Webnet members,
The Limited Resources SIG will be meeting next on Tues. Dec. 4.
**This meeting on Web databases will be specifically for
NON-programmers.**
WHAT: Limited Resources SIG meeting
WHEN: Tues. Dec. 4, 9-10 am, possibly to 10:30 if questions warrant
WHERE: 3105 Tolman (Beach Room)
WHO: campus Web managers who are NOT programmers
TOPIC: Web Databases for Non-programmers, with an overview and a report
on FileMaker Pro
SPEAKERS:
* SIG regular Sara Leavitt, a P/A Web manager at Lawrence Hall of
Science, will give a nontechnical, clear-eyed overview of Web databases,
focusing on flat vs. relational databases.
* Also, SIG host (and non-programmer) Pat Soberanis, CRS II Web manager
at Psychology, will describe her experiments in setting up FileMaker Pro
for delivering a directory over the Web - i.e., is it a viable
alternative to becoming a database programmer?
We hope non-programmers will leave with a real sense of what Web
databases require, and what their options are for setting up their own.
**This meeting on Web databases will be specifically for
NON-programmers.**
