Mike,
In response to your comment
"What about those of us who use Unix desktops and are not joined to any Windows domain?"
Being joined or not being joined to the campus Windows Domain will not keep you from being able to use CalShare. Everyone with a CalNetID also has an account in Campus AD, which is what CalShare uses as the authentication authority. We actually have several groups that use their sites for collaboration with external users.
All that being said there are definitely functionality differences when a user is not using a Windows OS, IE 6 or 7. Even if you do have a windows operating system you will see feature differences depending on what version of office is installed. Believe me every time I talk to our Microsoft Rep, Tech support or anyone else that will listen, I let them know the issues we face here. There will always be some features that will only work with Office and Sharepoint and that is understood. But those features aside, it should not matter what OS a browser is being used.
Michael

Joyce,
Your second paragraph above just emphasizes Erik's and Russell's point.
What about those of us who use Unix desktops and are not joined to any
Windows domain? I've hardly ever used Sharepoint, but if it's so oriented
to a Windows domain environment (even if that's not a requirement), I
wouldn't be surprised to find out that it's not terribly friendly for
someone in my situation.
Mike
