This is a gentle reminder regarding the informational meeting described
below. This meeting will introduce the reorganization of the Campus
Information Technology Architecture Council (ITAC) and the vision for this
group moving forward. As the campus first appointed Chief Technology
Architect, I encourage your attendance and participation.

I am writing to you as a member of or someone with an interest in the UC
Berkeley Information Technology campus community. As part of the revised
campus-wide IT governance process, the long-standing Information Technology
Architecture Committee (ITAC) is being restructured to focus on providing
guidance on campus-wide IT architecture issues.

As a technical advisory committee to the new Campus Technology Council
(CTC), the new ITAC group will play a major role in recommending families of
architectures that will serve as campus-wide frameworks for future IT
investment. The recommendations of the ITAC group are expected to include
all types of computing (administrative, academic, research) and include
application frameworks and interfaces, data design and exchange, and
infrastructure standards and protocols.

As you can see from the attached ITAC Governance document, there are a
limited number of positions available on the committee. The membership
positions were selected to insure broad representation of campus functional
areas, and include appointments from academic, administrative and central
campus IT units.

If you or someone in your organization currently serves as an IT architect
and would like to find out more about the new ITAC group and the
possibilities for participation, please come to an informational session on
Thursday, May 3rd from 10:30am - noon in 60 Barrows Hall. Hébert
Diaz-Flores, the newly appointed Chief Technology Architect for the campus,
and I will be discussing the new committee, planned areas of focus for the
coming year, and the nomination process for those interested in
participating.

Thank you,
Shel Waggener
Associate Vice Chancellor and
Chief Information Officer
