RE: UC Berkeley mainframe TN3270 emulation going SSL/TLS.

Greg;

VPN+ Lonicera access to the mainframe for OPTRS will be phased out when we
go to mandatory secure TN3270 using SSL/TLS protocols. There is a Q&A in the
Secure TN3270 Emulation FAQs (link is in the iNews article) ...

graphic image to emphasize section headerI currently use a VPN client to
connect to the mainframe ironwood system via the lonicera server. Will I
continue to use VPN? If not when do I switch to the Hummingbird HE TN3270
emulator?

The VPN/Lonicera connection to the mainframe is analogous to using
Hummingbird HE SSL/TLS TN3270 connecting directly to ironwood. You can
continue to use the VPN/lonicera connectivity to ironwood until we implement
mandatory SSL/TLS TN3270 connections. At that time you should stop using the
VPN/lonicera method of connecting to the mainframe and use the
ironwood-mod2ssl profile in the Hummingbird Neighborhood program group to
make your connection. More detailed information on this issue will be
available as we get closer to the mandatory conversion date.

Hi Richard,

Will tn3270 access to lonicera.berkeley.edu remain unchanged --

unencrypted directly, but accessed through campus VPN?

Thanks!
