Re: Advice Needed on APC Uninterruptable Power Supplies

Regarding the APC trade-in program, here's my experience (YMMV)
- You have to buy more Wattage than you're sending back.
- Had to use a 3rd party vendor recommended by APC, because their direct
trade-in program wouldn't accept a PO, only credit card.
- The 3rd party vendor shipped promptly, but never sent the shipping
labels for the return. I sent several emails, after 3 months I called
them and they faxed labels.
- Since I don't run a shipping warehouse, I called the UPS Store and
asked how much to box the heaviest unit. I gave dimensions and got a
quote of around $20.
- After hauling all this stuff downtown, the store manager told me that
they had to be double boxed and that there's a hefty labor charge.
They'd box up my SU3000 (165 lbs), to SU1000s (65 lbs each) and a little
500 watt unity (20 lbs) for $289.00, of which about $150 was labor. He
also looked at my labels and said they couldn't be scanned, thus they'd
have to be re-sent by the 3rd party vendor.
- Since 3 months have elapsed and APC hasn't seemed to miss them, I
hauled them back and gave them to my building manager to dispose of.
