RE: Office and AD

Hi:
I will go ahead and give that a try as it sounds really reasonable. On the
second note by looking at the situation a little bit more widely I cleared
the configuration files from the Internet service in which the computer was
not even appearing. I then removed the application server service restart it
reinstalled the application service and as we speak I'm hoping it's working.

Hi Lucia,

Office wants to install some files in the current profile and setup the
user's settings the first time they use any Office product by default. So
with your current setup, this will happen every time a user uses Office on a
machine they have not used before.

There are a couple of ways around this. Probably the most straightforward is
by installing the Office Resource Kit
(http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/FX011511491033.aspx for Office 2000) and
using the utilities included to create an .mst file.

This is a sort of "answer" file that, when used in conjunction with the
normal .msi installers, can change the default settings for Office. In the
2003 environment, and I believe in 2000 as well, one of these settings is to
avoid that initial installation of the user's profile.

As for the update server issue, were you able to connect to the web page to
administer the tool prior to pushing the updates, or was this done
completely on the server end?
