Job Description:
Cal Performances and Student Musical Activities is a division made up of
two departments. Cal Performances is the campus performing arts
presenter, presenting hundreds of public performances each year. Cal
Performances provides arts education and outreach programs in
association with public performances, providing educational materials to
schools and teachers and coordinating master classes, seminars, and
lectures. Cal Performances also manages campus venues for use by other
campus departments. Student Musical Activities is a collection of
student arts performance groups including the Cal Band, UC Choral
Ensembles, and UC Jazz Ensembles. Approximately 600 students are
involved as members of these groups each year, and the groups together
perform in over 300 public performances a year.
The Information Systems unit of Cal Performances and Student Musical
Activities manages all computing and communications activities for the
division. The Systems Administrator is primarily responsible for
overall system administration of 30 production and test/development
servers. Secondary responsibilities of the position are to provide
support to users and help to ensure compliance with data security and
data integrity.
Responsibilities:
80% System Administration: Installs, configures, tests, and maintains
operating system and application software and updates on test and
production servers. Monitors servers for performance and problems.
Configures permissions for web developers and application developers on
servers.
10% Support: Provide support to users. Act as a departmental technical
resource for escalated trouble tickets involving databases, custom
applications, and major systems. Act as a backup support resource for
general problems when the Support Supervisor and Help Desk Specialist
are unavailable.
10% Data Security & Integrity: Help to ensure compliance with data
security, backup, disaster recovery, privacy, and other plans and
policies for systems and e-commerce sites in the division. Once a year
conduct the quarterly self-audit of compliance with security policies.
Requirements & Qualifications:
Required:
Linux systems administration experience (3+ years)
Windows XP / Server 2003 systems administration experience (3+ years)

Netware administration
IBM Tivoli Storage Management
Red Hat Linux experience
Ghost imaging experience
Windows Group Policy experience
IPSEC experience
IPTables and firewall experience
Other:
Successful completion of a criminal background check is required for
this position.
