Generator Microsoft Word 11 (filtered medium) I installed the same update this morning on my home computer, also a Dell Dimension, without any problems; I don' t recall the model number, however.

Hi Folks,
The latest Microsoft Windows updates completely crashed my DellDimension 8400 system at home(running XP Pro SP2)- windows failed and nothing will load.Windows freezes on the screen right after startup, where I can see my wallpaper, but no icons, shortcuts, or taskbar will load. The computer is stuck at the wallpaper screen. Luckily Ican stilllog onto Windows using Safe Mode and uninstall the updates and also restore the system back to the last working settings. And I am glad that solved the problem, and my system is running flawlessly now (without the latest updates).

I am not sure if anyone else might experience this issue, or if this is a Dell Dimension 8400 issue, or just my issue :-(
I am not sure if I should be giving the updates another chance, or does this mean I should stop updating my computer???

There were 3 updates that were installed - one critical security update for Windows, one security update for Internet Explorer, and the monthly anti-spyware removal tool. I am thinking it is either the Windows update or the IE update that is creating this problem. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Amy
