My experience is that Eudora 6.2 will hang up ("not responding", and
its little icons and such go away) when certain evil spam emails are
highlighted in a mailbox window. Here's a fix that's easier than
editing the mailbox file:

Kill Eudora by task manager or whatever. If the evil email was the
last in the inbox, first send yourself a couple of mails from
somewhere else, say the Calmail window. Then restart Eudora. Select
the message above the offending one and shift-click on the one below
it, so you have three selected without having clicked on the bad
apple. Drag the group to the trash.

Now open the trash mailbox and drag the first and third of the group
back to the inbox. Then empty the trash.
