Problem with new Dell

Hi all:

Dimension 9100 just arrived. User reports this problem:

>1. If I have anything plugged into USB (e.g, memory stick, backup drive,
>laser mouse), the system will not boot. It gets hung up on opening screen
>which says to press Ctrl I to enter configuration (but doesn't even
>respond to this). The system works fine if I remove the peripheral. Also,
>these same peripherals work fine if I plug them in after booting but then
>I have to remove each time.

even if just one device (the memory stick, which doesn't require any user
installed driver) is plugged, the computer hangs on startup - after the
brief display of the "enter Ctrl+I" prompt.

Any suggestions before we call Dell?

thanks Michael
