On a hand-out that I received at the last Micronet meeting, Symantec Client
Security is listed as an approved firewall for Windows 2000 Server.
But I have not been able to install it on our Win2K Server. Here's what I
have tried:
1) Download and install the Desktop Client for SCS 2.0.2 MR2 from
software.berkeley.edu. This gives an error message "This version of
Symantec Client Security is not designed to operate on servers".
2) Download and install the Complete CD Administrators for SCS 2.0.2 MR2
from software.berkeley.edu. I used this to install SAV, but
CD4\SCSClnt\Setup.exe, (which I had hoped would install a firewall) gave
the same error message: "This version of Symantec Client Security is not
designed to operate on servers".
3) Download and install the SAVCE-Only CD Administrators for SCS 2.0.2 MR2
from software.berkeley.edu. This seems to contain SAV and related tools,
but no firewall.
Along the way, I had an awful time completely removing prior versions of
NAV, so that may have confused the issue. Installations were quitting at
unexpected places unable to find DLLs etc. But that all seems to be clean now.
Please tell me I missed something obvious.
