I switched over to thunderbird a month or two ago. I was concerned w/
the attachments issue and mbox format as well. I had a personal POP
account plus campus IMAP account. Thunderbird converted both fine. In
fact, you could sftp down a unix mailbox format email (I think, 2 months
is a long time to remember details) into the thunderbird folders and it
will recognize it and won't convert it to mbx format. Of course, I
didn't delete my eudora attachments folder or anything just in case.
But I've been able to view my attachments okay (I think) w/in
thunderbird....
