The first step is to make sure that the hostnames for the POP or
IMAP server, and the SMTP server, are *exactly* calmail.berkeley.edu,
thus matching CalMail's server certificate.
If that doesn't help - or if your users are in a CalMail
departmental domain - we can discuss this further.
