Good Morning, Micronetters
We have a computer we purchased from IX Computers (formerly IXLan
Computers). IX does a bit of business building systems for other
departments on campus. Anyway...
We purchased this computer and installed Windows 2000 Server with a
third party Secure FTP Server from SSH. This is the only function for
this computer. Here are the basic stats:
Intel 8280DB Motherboard
Intel Pentium 2.4 Ghz processor
1.5 Gig RAM
ST430014A 40 Gig hard drive (three partitions: c = 4.7G, d = 16.2G, e =
16.2G)
NVIDIA GeForce2 MX 400 video card with cooling fan
Sony CD/RW CRX220E1 drive
Intel Pro/100 VE network card
CPU Fan
Power Supply Fan
This system runs 24/7 for the Secure FTP SSH Tectia server but is still
in test so it is not accessed at this time. It has A/V and Firewall with
all the required security patches for the O/S.
The problem:
Twice in the last month and a half I go to log in to the system and the
following warning window is on:
Drive Health Warning!
The hard disk ST340014A s/n 5JX11SXP has overheated! The current
temperature is 246 C.
When I check the system the fans are running and all seems in perfect
order including the hard drive. Has anyone run into this situation
before? If so, how did you resolve it? Any other idea's? Does anyone
know where this monitoring software may be hidden, can't find it in the
O/S and/or control panel...).
I called and emailed IX Computers but their response time has a lot to
be desired (not pleased with their service contract). I would like to
resolve this issue before going into production (if it is a problem and
not just a faulty software glitch).
Many Thanks,
Charles
