That depends a lot on how many LAN parties their children are having
with their friends and neighbors bringing in laptops to hook up to the
home network for playing games :-)

In other words, do they trust every potential computer hooked up to
their home network or not? And if they have a wireless LAN, do they
even *know* how many computers with which they are sharing the network?

And finally, are they using the campus VPN? If so, they are sharing the
network with the entire campus and definitely would be better off with
a host-based firewall.

Even at home, you may not be alone :-)
