I was able to insert an ".AVI" video clip in to the PowerPoint presentation
on Windows.

Lots of good advice from Gary.

I'd just add that you may not actually have to transfer to tape. Some DV
cameras do "pass through" so you can use the camera as an analog-to-digital
converter box, without having to take the extra step of copying to tape.

Also, keep in mind that the presentation will only work on a Mac.
(PowerPoint on Windows doesn't support QuickTime.)

Using the built-in export options in iMovie *are* painless but don't always
give you optimal results. (In other words, if you try it and don't like what
you see, don't assume that you can't do better. I'm happy to help you pick
better settings, if you are dissatisfied.)
