This is nothing more than marketing.
In essence, Balmer might as well say
"We are the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and end of
all your computer suffering..."

Maybe they are planning on reinventing themselves as a security company
soon, to pander to the ever-increasing market for security products
caused by their deficient product line.

Just like how, deep down inside, we all know anti-virus companies
are the chief source of computer viruses :-)
