Holly -

The file names strongly suggest that these are PC files.

A useful tool for identifying possible programs associated with file
extensions is:
http://filext.com

Their list has a few of possibilities -
.gen may be a Dbase application generator compiled template
.bdb could be a Microsoft Works database file
.spe = CCD Camera Bitmap Image (Princeton instruments) (doesn't seem likely
in 1992)

There may be other possibilities - good luck!
