Does anyone have an operational 4mm external SCSI tape backup drive?
Our APS drive broke down and I need to recover some files from a Mac
Retrospect backup. If I could either borrow your drive for use on our backup
machine, or if you have Retrospect and can restore the files off our tape... I
would be most grateful (would homemade cookies be an acceptable bribe?)
One of the staff members at the UC Herbarium lost her Mac Eudora email folder
during a system upgrade (my fault) and desperately needs 25 emails received
during the last two weeks.
Mail was never left on the server, so probably never made it to routine
backups (Socrates). Norton Unerase couldn't find a complete In-box file and
subsequent text/file-type searches yielded only random fragments of email
folders (already hand scrolled through 1200 fragments/200MB of garbage for
four hours to recover less than 5MB of mail).
Any help restoring from this tape would be most appreciated and would probably
win you some cookies and dried specimens of exotic French Polynesian mosses.
