FWIW, I can't even get it to install on my NT4/SP6a machine, although it
seems to work fine on my Win2k system. WSSG has submitted a problem report
to Norton on my behalf.
The problem seems to be with the Windows installer, which Norton claims
not to be able to debug themselves, but which they chose to use in order
to get 'Windows certification' for the software. Thus far, we have not
received a response from Norton on my problem.
The symptom is that, during installation, just after 'building the virus
list', the installation 'rolls back' and I'm told (by the installer) that
the installation was interrupted (and not done) and I should try again
later. No reason is given and my Event Logs contain no more information
than that. I have tried many times, including with the latest NAV version
that was recently made available on the WSS download site. Same results
each time.
Norton suggested a workaround that involves changing permissions on some
Registry keys. I followed their procedure, but the results remain the same.
I just hope this problem is somehow resolved before the end of the year,
when the official campus anti-virus software support switches from McAfee
to Norton.
