Campus Community, Students, Faculty, Staff:
Recently there have been several mass emails sent to thousands
of members of the campus community, making offers for various
telephone services. None of these offers is approved or affiliated
with the campus in any way.
At least one of these "offers" requests that you respond with
several pieces of personal information, including your name,
your birthdate, and your Social Security number.
The information that is being requested is more than enough to
allow an unscrupulous person to steal your identity, and it is
inappropriate (and arguably illegal) for anyone to send unsolicited
mass email requesting that information.
Please be very careful how you respond to "offers" such as this,
especially from anonymous sources.
Thank you,
Clifford W. Frost
