Office 2000 is no longer on Microsoft Select list

On Tuesday I heard from several people that Software Spectrum was
saying that licenses for Office 2000 are no longer available. Our
Microsoft rep (Mark Ciabattari) has confirmed that the June 2001
Select price list does not list Office 2000, since Office XP is the
most current version of Office for Windows platforms.

HOWEVER, Mark points out that Microsoft offers a downgrade option for
Microsoft products except OEM operating system licenses. This option
is included in the Microsoft Select program that Software Spectrum
manages for UC, and Software Spectrum staff should have informed
Berkeley customers about it. Essentially, this option permits a user
to buy a license for the current version of a product but use an
earlier version. This enables an organization or unit to standardize
on one version without upgrading all licenses at once.

Attached is a brief on this topic that Mark sent me. It doesn't mention Office XP, but the same principles apply. The document is in
