Lots (most?) commercial ISP's have an SMTP server which is open to their
authenticated users.
For example, when I am at our summer camp in Plumas County, I connect to
psln.com, one of the local ISP's. I can still use
nature.berkeley.edu to receive incoming mail with Eudora Pro, but my
outgoing SMTP server in that case is smtp.psln.com
