Archive & Install on 10.4 server?

We have a couple of OS X 10.4 server machines. Both of them have
recently started exhibiting similar -- but uniquely different --
hanging and stalling behaviors.(*)

We're interested in doing an Archive & Install on these machines. Is
this an option for the Server OS?

Also, if it is supported, are there any concerns? Any significant
configurations or features that are dropped when you do the Archive &
Install?

Thanks!
-Greg

(*) In case anyone has seen similar problems, here are the symptoms:
One will go into periods of taking a minute or two to do ANY kind of
auth -- ssh, gui login, htpasswd, afp, anything -- while carrying out
other new and existing processes just fine. The other machine will go
into a weird status of carrying out what it was doing, but not be able
to initiate new processes.
