Dear BPAWG,

Our next meeting will host CIO/AVC Shel Waggener. Please read below for
more information on the session.

Date: November 6, 2008
Time: 3:00-4:30pm
Location: Section Club and Class of '42 Rooms, Tang Center

*Description:*

Many technology investments require staged capital level funding over
multiple years, a commitment which is difficult to support within the
current annual budget model. Additionally, ongoing operational funding
must be identified in advance of making new capital commitments. Our
traditional practice of investing tactically at all levels (campus,
departmental, unit) in response to urgent or pressing needs has limited
the effectiveness of our scarce resources and left us with many
enterprise systems with no lifecycle plan. Moving forward, we will need
to change the current annual budget process to accommodate the need for
multi-year planning and investment and the redirection of existing spend
towards new initiatives.

Best,

James
