An update related to the recent postings on the Career Compass rollout for
IT staff on campus.
I have been in contact with Rich Lau, the Compensation Director in the HR
office responsible for the job mapping portion of this initiative. As IT
is the one of the first groups to go through the process, I have offered
to provide support for the process working with HR to provide guidelines
regarding how IT jobs should be mapped in the new Career Compass
structure, particularly those that have significant responsibility in
multiple job families. To help manage the process, my office will be
working closely with Rich and his team to develop published guides and
workshops for supervisors and managers. We plan on providing real world
examples of the mapping of some common technical staff positions (such as
PAII and PA III who are responsible for numerous technology efforts). We
will break down those multiple roles and walk through the process of
evaluating how to map the position into the new families. We are also
working on a revised timeline to make sure all interested supervisors have
sufficient time to complete the workshops before undertaking the mapping
process. Watch for additional information and scheduling to be posted to
technical mail lists soon.
