Dear MagNet.
I would like to load OS 10.4 (DVD) on several iMac computers with CD-RW
slot-loading drives. They meet all other specs for the operating
system, but I'm wondering how to load the OS on these computers without
trading the DVD for CDs. I have considered the following options:
1) Buying a Firewire DVD drive to boot the computer with the install DVD.
2) Connecting a computer to one that already has a DVD drive with the
appropriate firewire cable? (6 pin to 6 pin).
3) Buying a firewire hard drive to load the install disk, and run from
there.
I eventually plan to load and run netBoot and netRestore, but I think
it's a big jump to do so without a model computer running th current OS,
so I'd at least need to install to one of these at least. I could also
use some tips on these technologies.
Finally, what is the current standard for antivirus and firewall
programs for Mac? Right now we are running the Norton Personal Firewall
and Antivirus 10 on the 10.3 machines, but have had some conflicts
trying to run it on 10.4. Thanks a lot!
Sincerely,
Ilan Eyman
