Re: Tiger upgrade issue

What sort of error is this gray/black screen? Does my hard drive need repair?

Here's what happened.
After following the steps you suggested and on restart, the same
gray/black screen and restart message appeared. When I pressed the
power button, screen changed to language selection. I could not move
forward from this point. Cursor frozen in upper left corner although
the optical mouse is lit.

I haven't tried this, but you might...

o Insert Tiger DVD
o Shut down computer
o Disconnect external drive
o Turn on computer -- your Tiger DVD should be the only available
boot disk at this point
o After the installer (hopefully) comes up, connect the firewire drive
o Continue with installation

My hope is that the installer will indeed boot when it's the only
available OS, and that the FW disk will mount once you're running the
installation environment.
