Hi Eric,
Your computer might be suffering from a bad logic board. I've had a few
iMacs where the fan would kick into overdrive and various display
problems.
Check out this site to see if your serial number falls into the range of
affected iMacs:
http://www.apple.com/support/imac/repairextensionprogram/
Your computer should be covered under the initial warranty of 1 year if
purchased in March.
