Eudora --problems importing mail

I'm having some difficulties importing mail from Eudora 5.1 running on Mac
OS 9.0.4 to Eudora 6.1 running on Mac OS X (10.3.6).

If I just drop the eudora folder or the mailboxes into the new eudora
folder location, Eudora spits and coughs errors and the mailboxes are
unreadable.

I was able to import the mail into Applemail and then import from Applemail
to Eudora. However, I lose any association in the messages to attachments
with the import to Applemail.

Has any one seen this behavior before?
