Hi all,
The appended heads-up notice is the first in a series intended for
support folks in selected departments who may receive requests from
some of their users to deploy the Cisco VPN client over the next
several weeks.

VPN for PPS/OPTRS
As announced in a recent iNews/BC&C articles, IST and its campus IT
partners are implementing a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to secure the
Base Payroll/Personnel System (PPS) Online Payroll Time Reporting
System (OPTRS) application in compliance with the campus Minimum
Security Standards. The VPN project includes the deployment throughout
the campus of a client on each workstation supporting an authorized
departmental user of PPS/OPTRS.
The VPN for PPS/OPTRS is now ready for a phased production roll-out. The
Cisco VPN Client software is now available for the Windows and Mac OS
platforms. The ASD Technical Help Desk is ready to provide end user
support for PPS/OPTRS, including issues with the VPN. Each phase of the
roll-out will involve 50-100 or more PPS/OPTRS users in several
departments (as listed at the end below). Each user and department in
this roll-out phase will be notified in the coming days to have their
workstations enabled for VPN access and their TN3270 programs
configured to allow connection to the PPS/OPTRS application running on
the lonicera.berkeley.edu host.
Departmental systems administrators supporting users for this and
subsequent roll-out phases can obtain pre-configured Cisco VPN Client
installers for their users of PPS/OPTRS at the WSS Software website:
which includes support documentation and related links on the download
page. The Cisco VPN Client software must be in place for all PPS/OPTRS
users in January, 2005. You can keep abreast of developments in this
area and ask your VPN support-related questions by joining the VPN-MVS
Support mailing list. To subscribe, send e-mail to:
