Hi Folks -
One of our Windows support people came to me about a former Mac user
who had used the colon character (:) in naming MANY files, and now
they are having a terrible time transferring these files to her new
Windows system. The user can't remember naming these files in this
manner...another unlikely detail is that many of them apparently are
.png or .gif files. (She had a download of the department website on
her old system, and I can only guess these are files within the
mirrored website. She doesn't do graphics work.)
I recalled reading on either the magnet list or the LBL MUG list that
someone had figured a way to rename several Mac files globally to
replace a character that Windows could not accept. (Was it you, Tom
Holub?)
My search in my archives can't find that email thread. Anyone
willing to help us, or at least point us in the right direction?
I'm cc-ing my Windows-side colleague, Ionut, on this question--please
reply to him too!
