old LaserWriter with 10.3

We have an elderly but still excellent Apple LaserWriter Pro 630. It
functioned properly under OS-9, with ethernet, but I cannot get it to
work with OS-X 10.3.

Setting it up for IP printing under 10.3 it just times out, no
response. Using the Chooser under Classic it shows up in the list, but
when I try to configure it there is no response. I have tried it on
more than one ethernet port.

Is this printer just too old for IP (LPD/LPR) printing?

Thanks,
Don
