Hi Jay, Rusty and others,
I'm sorry it has taken me a while to send out this response, we are
currently in training sessions with the vendor, so our days are full!
For quite some time there has been interest around campus for a
centralized email service, one that can encompass multiple domains. Some
of the reasons behind this are greater support, reliability and the
ability to implement the @berkeley.edu addresses.
This new system has that capability. This means that it can handle
UCLink, as well as any other system (for instance boalt, haas, nature, ls,
etc).
The BERT domains team has been in meetings with the vendor to better
understand the features that this system has to offer. What we would like
to do next is have a meeting with the sys admins of the other systems on
campus, in order to assure that the service which we put into place will
be one that the campus will find viable.
Feedback from some members of the campus have shown us that some of the
major concerns are: name conflicts, quotas, web pages and keeping their
unique domain names. We are addressing all of these with the vendor in
these meetings.
I want to thank all of the sys admins who have already written to us!
Once we have come up for air after these training sessions, I will be
coordinating a meeting to talk to all of you.
I hope that this has answered your questions, if not, please write to me
directly.
