   That's so funny it hurts!

If this helps at all, HP's page listing the status of drivers for
many of the company's scanners, both for Mac OS X 10.2 ("Jaguar") and
earlier versions of the Mac OS, is at:

HP Scanjet Scanners - Mac OS: Support for Mac OS X
   http://www.hp.com/cposupport/printers/support_doc/bpm35006.html

Another option might be to look into the well-regarded VueScan,
<http://www.hamrick.com/>, a third-party scanner utility/driver set
for Mac OS X, as well as Mac OS 9, Windows, and Linux. VueScan
supports some of HP's flatbed scanners (2100C, 2200C, 4100C, 5200C,
5300C, 6200C, 6300C, 7400C) as well as that company's SCSI scanners.
(The product does not support the HP 3300, 3400, 3500, 4200, 4300,
4400, 4500, 5400 and 5500.)

VueScan costs $59.95, and a free trial version is available for
downloading. These days, of course, many entry level scanners are
available close to or even below that price. :-) Still, if the
option is to get an HP scanner working with Jaguar or to buy a
quality Epson Perfection series scanner as a replacement, the former
might yet be more cost effective.
