OSX vs 9.2.2: losing server connections

When connecting to a server running 9.2.2 from a computer running
OSX, invariably, that server will disconnect after a rather short
time. One user added server connections to his dock and after a
while those icons in the dock will have a question mark over them.
Also, after adding documents or folders from the server to his
Favorties folder they will all become corrupt and unusable. If he
logs out then logs back in, everything is fine for a while. He is
having to log out several times a day.
Has anyone had similar experiences and know what the problem might
be? At the moment we aren't planning to upgrade these particular
servers to OSX.
