A little known fact: the installer which updates Mac OS 8.5 or
8.5.1 to Mac OS 8.6 has long been available on successive releases of
the Connecting@Berkeley CD <http://cab.berkeley.edu/>.
The C@B 2004 CD includes six system software update installers for
the Classic Mac OS -- those required to resolve critical networking
problems or to support various applications included elsewhere on the
CD -- in the "Mac OS 8&9:System Software Updates" folder. These
updates, totalling over 80 MB of disk space, consist of:
- Ethernet Update (for Mac OS 9.0.4)
- Mac OS 8.5.x->8.6
- Mac OS 9.0.x->9.0.4
- Open Transport 2.6
- Open Transport 2.7.6 (for Mac OS 9.1)
- QuickTime 6.3
If you don't already have one of these CDs around, you can purchase
the C@B 2004 CD from TSW for $7.99.
