Hi,
I have a strange one.
We have a customer with a new 17" iMac (10.2.4) that cannot maintain a
dial-up connection with Earthlink. The modem audibly dials, negotiates and
maintains a connection allowing for normal network activity for a few
minutes then disconnects giving the error message: "The modem has
unexpectedly hung up. Check your settings."
I've checked all settings- had 4 other techs check the settings just in case
we missed something basic. Earthlink and Apple have been contacted and no
solution is available as of now. Earthlink blames Apple. Apple blames
Earthlink. The customer is caught in the middle-- unable to dial-in to
Earthlink.
I've tried dialing into multiple Earthlink modems in different area codes
(707 & 510) and the result is the same-- connection maintained for several
minutes and then unexpectedly is lost.
I've dialed into the campus modem pool and maintained a connection for the
full two hours without an error message. So the problem doesn't *appear* to
be with the modem.
What's been done to connect:
Used Apple's "Internet Connect" to connect to Earthlink- error occurs.
Used Earthlink's OS X dial-up software (downloaded from Earthlink so I'm
using the latest version) -- error occurs.
I've run Apple's Hardware Diagnostic disc that came with the system-- all
tests passed. The test was run multiple times in Quick & Extended modes and
the modem passed every test.
I've reinstalled the OS. Problem still occurs.
Got any ideas? I'm close to my wits end.
Thanks,
Kin
