Has anyone come across or experienced a specific extension conflict
with Quicktime v. 6?

Reason for asking is that I've been working on a G4 with OS 9.2.1
which worked beautifully until suddenly it started spitting out
random and strange errors like that it couldn't run some software
because it needed OS 8.6 even though it had OS 9.2.1. This computer
is used by students so it's impossible to know for sure what started
this problem. I suspect a download of RealPlayer or Windows Media
Player might be the culprits, but have no proof.

Anyway, just to be safe, I did a clean install so that it would get
clean extensions etc., it seemed to work fine so I reinstalled a few
things like Quicktime etc., well, after doing that, it started to
really have problems and wouldn't boot up all the way, it would get
to the point of the desktop and hang. To make a long story short,
after doing a lot of extension conflict detective work (because it
booted up fine with Extensions Off), I finally got it to work, but
only if I disable Quicktime extensions. I reinstalled Quicktime 6
several times, trashed the prefs etc., but the same problem would
reoccur and would only go away if I disable the Quicktime extensions.
I even tried a Quicktime 5 installer, but it would only detect that
there was a newer version on the server and install Quicktime 6.
It's now functioning fine without those extensions except for when
Quicktime is needed which is a lot like Picture Viewer so I'm going
to need Quicktime eventually. I am going to try to copy over a
version of Quicktime 5 next with its extensions and see if that
works, but other than that, I'm stumped as to what else to do other
than reformatting the hard drive.

Any suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

Beth
