Hi Folks:
Here is an unexpected problem originally stemming from the AppleTalk Abatement.
Though most of the staff is within one subnet, some folks are in
another building (in space provided by LBNL, indirectly connected
thru their network) on a different subnet maintained by CNS.
When abatement originally happened, I was able to connect (on either
OS9 or OS X) to the Mac computers within the subnet using IP
addresses (though i could have used AppleTalk): but I could not
connect to the servers on the other subnet. I attributed it to the
routing thru non-UC cables/etc, though CNS assured me otherwise.
However, now as I try to gain their assistance in being able to
re-connect to those servers and printers on the other subnet: I tried
again to connect to same-subnet servers and no success: "Connecting
to server afp://128.32....error -36" on OS X and something like
"unable to connect to server..." on OS9. They are available via
AppleTalk and they are correctly configured, TCP/IP-wise.
I am able to to backup systems on EITHER subnet with Retrospect (!!!).
I need to be able to connect/share files and printers with computers
on this subnet: any suggestions?
thanks
michael
